Painting & Sculptures with natural sands
Tatj - The Creator of Sandart
I grew up in the small town of Eppingen in southern Germany. I completed my studies in the romantic Heidelberg on the Neckar and after several stays abroad in Switzerland and in the United States, I used to live for a couple of years in Paris. Now I have set up my studio in my hometown in the middle of the nature of the Kraichgau.
Since several years I put my creative energy into my "sand art". I have developed my own technique which allows me to fix the natural sands permanently on different surfaces. The deliberate application of the different sands in an upbuilding relief technique highlights the contrasts and at the same time brings forth the harmony of these grains. Inspired by abstract or concrete motifs, these vivid images show a natural "mouvance".
I also create sculptures made of wood or stone and practice artful photography of nature, whose shapes, colors and materials have always fascinated me and make up their rich and varied beauty.
The very first presentation of one of my sand paintings during the exhibition "Order and Chaos" at the Galerie Saint Germain (2010) earned me the first Audience Award in the category of sculptural art.
Afterwards I exhibited my first 43 sand works in the big solo exhibition of the ESPACE HATTORI in Paris. In 2011 I developed the project «MOUVANCE» for the gallery 59RIVOLI (Paris 1er). With photographs (S. Delpech-Marseille), modern dance (L. Schnauer, P.Hoffmann-
Rosenheim) and sands from all over the world (sand art) we contrasted the possible harmony between nature and civilization in the center of historical and moving Paris.
At the art fair FranchementArt on the Côte d'Azur (2011), I designed in collaboration with the sculptor Ch. Boyer (Cannes), a sandy and transient sand installation in the old citadel above the sea.
Since then, sandy presentations followed in France, Switzerland and Germany until today.
